Mapping & Georeferencing

Inertial-aided spatial awareness for aerial and terrestrial mapping systems.

Accurate mapping depends on precise spatial orientation and trajectory tracking – even without GNSS.With Epson’s high-performance IMUs and gyroscopes, AMCORIS enables robust mapping workflows that seamlessly bridge GNSS signal loss. Our sensors are embedded into airborne LiDAR platforms, survey UAVs, and mobile mapping systems to provide reliable pose estimation and georeferencing.

Use Case Overview

From corridor mapping and infrastructure inspection to forestry and topographic surveys, modern geospatial platforms demand continuous position and orientation data. When GPS signals are obstructed – e.g. by trees, buildings, or tunnels – Epson’s low-drift inertial sensors maintain trajectory and orientation through advanced dead reckoning.

Applications include:

  • UAV-based LiDAR mapping (powerlines, pipelines, terrain)
  • Mobile mapping in urban environments
  • Georeferencing for photogrammetry
  • Slope and alignment correction in 3D terrain models
  • Rotating machine condition analytics (e.g. turbines, compressors)

With milliradian-level heading precision and ruggedized, temperature-stable designs, Epson sensors provide reliable data for sensor fusion with GNSS, SLAM, and RTK systems. RS-422 communication interfaces (e.g. in the M-G552PR) offer robust, interference-resistant data transmission – ideal for real-time integration into mapping systems.

Real-world Integration Example

An AMCORIS client outfitted their fixed-wing survey drone with an Epson M-G370PDG IMU to maintain orientation during high-wind mapping flights in mountainous regions. The IMU ensured uninterrupted pose estimation, enhancing data fusion with onboard GNSS/RTK modules.

In a vehicle-mounted system for urban 3D capture, the M-G552PR with RS-422 interface enabled stable real-time data transmission into a SLAM engine – with strong resistance to electrical noise from onboard power systems.

Why AMCORIS

  • Expertise in geospatial IMU-GNSS integration
  • RS-422 and CAN-ready modules for mapping systems
  • Engineering support for SLAM, LiDAR, photogrammetry
  • Field-proven hardware for airborne and mobile mapping
